An in-depth study of Samplers from the 1600s to the present day, their styles, designs, fabrics and threads.

All the illustrations are unique as our speaker has had the privilege of conserving all of them.

We will learn of the appropriate treatments which have been applied. Many samplers have been vulnerable to neglect and so advice on care and display is also given, ensuring that they will survive to enable future generations to enjoy them.

Our lecturer, Jacqueline Hyman gained her textile conservation experience with the Museums' Service.
In 1982 she established a freelance studio - the Textile Restoration Studio.

Today she is listed in ICOM's register (International Council of Museums).

Jacqueline is an accredited Conservator-Restorer and enjoys an international reputation for her conservation of textiles.
Recent commissions have included: garments belonging to Charlotte Bronte and William Wordsworth, ceremonial Coronation Robes, tapestries from Sotheby’s clients, and a regimental banner from the Battle of Culloden in 1746.

Jacqueline lectures enthusiastically on all aspects of textile conservation and her current specialist area is early English samplers. She has lectured and conducted study days and courses for NADFAS, the Embroiderers' Guild, the Lace Guild, Antique Collectors' clubs and other groups. She has appeared on Channel 4, BBC2 and the Discovery Channel.
