Ann Clements :    THE GLORIES OF ENGLISH WATERCOLOURS

    Aldborough, Suffolk - JMW Turner (1775 - 1851)

    Ann Clements writes:

Although watercolour is not unique to this country, the stunning achievements by English artists during the 18th and 19th centuries are !

Ranging from the simple pen, ink and wash drawing to the complex watercolours of Turner, they demonstrate remarkable skills.

By tracing the development of the medium from its origins, discussing the materials used, and focusing on some of the greatest exponents, Sandby, Girtin, Turner, Bonington, Towne, Cox, Lear, Whistler and Sargent, our understanding and appreciation will be enhanced.
